Our responsibility for nature and the environment
Global warming, loss of biodiversity and water scarcity all point to the need to take greater responsibility for nature and the environment. The textile industry is also involved in many of these negative environmental impacts, and is therefore on the verge of undergoing a change.
We are actively involved in shaping this change and rising to the challenge! We are reducing negative environmental impacts and conserving resources by taking action on climate protection, chemicals management and animal welfare.
Climate protection
The textile industry is responsible for nearly 10% of global CO2 emissions, more than international aviation and maritime shipping combined (source: EU). In order to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, we are currently calculating our carbon footprint in order to work with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to establish scientifically sound plans for the reduction of greenhouse gases.
Water and chemicals management
The textile industry is responsible for about 20% of the world's water pollution (source: EU). To change this, we operate a digital chemical management system together with the ZDHC organisation. We use this to control which chemicals are used in production. We monitor compliance with these standards by means of wastewater tests. We also use innovative methods to reduce our environmental impact.
What we are going to do next
We have to and want to set clearly defined targets for reducing emissions. We’re working on this intensively, because the clock is ticking. And we’re increasing our use of environmentally-friendly finishing methods.
